Our Accreditations
Industry-leading certifications that protect you and guarantee quality on every solar installation we carry out.
Five Reasons to Trust Your Installer
MCS Certified
Microgeneration Certification SchemeMCS is the quality mark for renewable energy installations in the UK. Only MCS-certified installations qualify for the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), which pays you for surplus electricity exported to the grid, and the current 0% VAT rate on domestic solar. MCS certification requires regular audits, ongoing training, and adherence to strict installation standards.
Why it matters: Without MCS certification, your solar installation would not qualify for government incentives, potentially costing you thousands in missed payments and tax savings.
NICEIC Approved
National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation ContractingNICEIC is the leading voluntary regulatory body for the electrical contracting industry in the UK. As an NICEIC Approved Contractor, Lumos Energy undergoes annual assessment of our electrical work, ensuring every installation meets the highest safety and quality standards defined by BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations).
Why it matters: NICEIC approval provides independent verification that our electrical installations are safe, competent, and compliant — protecting both your property and your family.
RECC Member
Renewable Energy Consumer CodeRECC is a consumer code approved by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI). As RECC members, we adhere to a strict code of practice covering sales, marketing, contracts, installation standards, and after-sales service. RECC membership provides you with access to an independent complaints process and financial protection.
Why it matters: RECC membership means your deposit is protected, your installation is warrantied, and you have access to independent dispute resolution if anything goes wrong.
Consumer Code Protection
Consumer Protection GuaranteeThrough our RECC membership, all Lumos Energy customers receive Consumer Code Protection. This includes deposit protection (up to 25% of contract value), an insurance-backed guarantee on workmanship, and access to an independent Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) service.
Why it matters: Your money is protected from the moment you pay your deposit, and your installation is guaranteed by an independent insurance-backed scheme — not just our word.
Deposit & Warranty Protection
Insurance-Backed Guarantee SchemeEvery Lumos Energy installation comes with an insurance-backed guarantee (IBG). If, for any reason, we are unable to honour our warranty obligations, the independent insurance provider steps in to cover the cost of any remedial work required.
Why it matters: Even in the unlikely event that Lumos Energy ceased trading, your installation warranty would remain valid and enforceable through the independent insurance provider.

Accreditation FAQs
You can search the official MCS installer database at mcscertified.com/find-an-installer. Enter a postcode to find all MCS-certified installers in your area. Lumos Energy is registered on the MCS database — we are happy to provide our MCS certificate number on request.
An unaccredited installation means you will not qualify for the Smart Export Guarantee (SEG), will be charged 20% VAT instead of 0%, and may find your home insurance affected. You also lose access to RECC consumer protection, deposit insurance, and independent dispute resolution. Always insist on MCS certification before signing any contract.
NICEIC membership exceeds the minimum Part P requirements. As an NICEIC Approved Contractor, Lumos Energy undergoes annual technical assessment and our work is regularly inspected against BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations). This is significantly more rigorous than simple self-certification schemes.
RECC deposit protection covers deposits up to 25% of your contract value. If a RECC member installer fails to complete the work or goes out of business after you have paid a deposit, you can claim that deposit back through the insurance scheme. This protection is backed by an independent insurer, not the installer.
